City
Alkhan is a floating city tied down by chains to the ground in the eastern khanate. The pit in the shadow of the city is the literal underbelly of Alkhan, given its own title of city and the name Edaros by locals. While the rich and powerful mages live in Alkhan, those in squalor survive in Edaros below.
History
The eastern khanate used to be under the dominion of Aledar Khan, until she was slain by a titan. After that, rulership of the khanate returned to the mortal leaders of the region, who had formed a mageocracy through Aledar’s teachings. Without a sun drake to protect them, they used magic to protect themselves from the monsters and elementals of the desert. Harnessing the region’s powerful leylines, the mages used elemental magic to rip the city of Alkhan from the ground and ascend it to the sky, only held to the ground by large chains and primordeus pylons. Those who weren’t rich, powerful, or fortunate enough to stay in Alkhan after its rising were cast into the great pit left in the earth from whence it came, which became the impoverished city of Edaros.
